It was really strange, calling a teacher by her first name. I told my classmates/ students to read the newspaper and asked them some questions, just as our teacher does. The headline news was about an investigation on Mr. Tong Hin-ming (ex-ICAC chief) and I asked the students a few questions about it. It’s probably obvious by now that I’m not a great teacher. What I think is most important is that a lesson should be fun and the teacher could keep the students quiet. Discipline I dealt out, but it’s still a long way from fun. But the fun part is now coming, at least, I hope it is. I told the class to introduce their favorite video/ computer game or English TV show. The boys were excited, of course, cuz who doesn’t like games? It was a bit of a burden for those who don’t play games but I think I left them a way out by way of TV shows. I asked a few of them out to introduce their favorites, then I asked has watched “Sherlock” by the BBC. The whole class laughed and someone even said they watch him every day. By “him” they mean Sherlock Ho.

So I showed the episode “The Hounds of Baskerville” because I knew the BoB team is reading the original.

I asked a few classmates about what they thought of the episode and the BoBers the differences between the original and the modernized episode.

The wrapping up I handed over to Mrs. May Wong and she asked me how I thought about the lesson and how my classmates thought about it.

So this is how I answered: I think this is a very good experience to learn about a teacher’s life and I know I was slacking off a bit by showing the “Sherlock” episode. A few students weren’t paying attention and I think that might’ve been partially my fault ’cause I could’ve created more interaction. Maybe next time we should let Tommy teach.

I would’ve used the Doctor Who episode “Blink” but there are 3 reasons I decided not to.

No.1: All the time traveling stuff would make anyone’s head hurt.

No. 2: I talk too much about DW already and the students probably won’t pay attention.

No. 3: “The Hounds of Baskerville” is related to BoB so it would have slightly more relevance.

Well, I guess that’s all for today.
