It was a cloudy and gloomy day.\u00a0 Terry was sitting in the back corner of the classroom. \u00a0He was sad. \u00a0Ever since he became the bottom of the whole form in the exam last year, nothing seemed to be able to raise his spirit. \u00a0He started to fail at all the tests and quizzes, and became the underdog of the class. \u00a0It appeared that his life had reached rock bottom. \u00a0Terry looked out of the windows and stared at the sky. \u00a0“I’m destined to become a failure,” he thought. There would be an examination next week but Terry had already given up on himself.<\/span><\/p>\n

After school, Terry was preparing to go home when suddenly, he heard someone shouting his name. \u00a0“Terry!” Adam shouted. \u00a0Adam was Terry’s best friend. \u00a0He tried to cheer Terry up after last year’s examination but nothing really seemed to work. \u00a0“Hi there, Terry. I’ve got something to give you.” \u00a0Adam pulled Terry aside, pushed a small carton box into his hand, and whispered in his ear, “Smart drugs, take them, and sure win!”<\/span><\/p>\n

“Smart drugs?” Terry opened the box and saw a lot of pills inside.<\/span><\/p>\n

“Yes. Smart drugs. \u00a0These little things can help you stay awake and focus better. \u00a0It is very good for doing revision. \u00a0You can definitely remember what you’ve revised while doing the exam paper. \u00a0In short, they will help you gain an edge in the exam,” Adam replied.<\/span><\/p>\n

“Could it be? \u00a0Could it be my chance? \u00a0Could it be the turning point of my life?” Terry thought with excitement.<\/span><\/p>\n

“You don’t need to thank me. \u00a0Even if you do, do it later. \u00a0I need to get going.” Adam left before Terry could say anything.<\/span><\/p>\n

Terry went back home with the box of pills. \u00a0Adam was his best friend and had never lied to him before. \u00a0Therefore, Terry was certain and confident that he would do well in the examination. The next few days, he studied very hard with the help of the pills. \u00a0It seemed that the pills were really working.<\/span><\/p>\n

Finally, it was the time for examination. \u00a0Terry hadn’t been so confident before. \u00a0With the help of the pills, he had nothing to worry. \u00a0During the exam, he could remember what he had revised, just like what Adam had said. \u00a0In the end, Terry scored a very high mark in the exam.<\/span><\/p>\n

After getting the satisfying result, Terry went to find Adam. \u00a0“Hey there, Adam. \u00a0You didn’t lie at all. \u00a0The pills work like a charm. \u00a0Do you have more?”<\/span><\/p>\n

Adam took out a box and took a pill out of it. \u00a0“You mean this?” Adam asked. “Well, there’s something I need to tell you.” \u00a0Adam turned the box around and on top of it, it said:<\/span><\/p>\n

“Vitamin pill?” Terry asked. \u00a0“What? \u00a0How?”<\/span><\/p>\n

“Yes. \u00a0It\u2019s indeed just vitamin pills,” Adam answered. \u00a0Terry was so shocked that his jaw almost touched the ground. \u00a0“Ever since last year’s exam, I’ve noticed that you’ve given up on yourself. \u00a0You started to perform badly in school.\u00a0 You’ve completely lost the confidence you once had. \u00a0How can you do well if you don’t even believe in yourself? \u00a0So, I thought of a plan. \u00a0These pills had brought you hope. \u00a0They made you become more confident and made you believe that you would succeed and you became more confident. You didn’t succeed because of the pills; it is because you believed in yourself.”<\/span><\/p>\n
