Before reading this novel, I was impressed by the <\/span>tagline <\/span>on the cover. \u2018<\/span>A hidden truth. Mortal enemies. Doomed love.<\/span>\u2019 <\/span>This is d<\/span>efinitely a whole new unique story<\/span> with<\/span> very well written characters<\/span>. <\/span>It caught my attention from the <\/span>main character, Jacinda<\/span>.<\/span> She<\/span> is a drak<\/span>i, the descendant of dragons <\/span>with the power <\/span>to shape-shift into human form. With her rare ability to breathe fire, she is favored and cherished among the draki, but she hates being trapped and has to follow everyone\u2019s rules, lacking freedom and independence<\/span> to make her own choices. Firelight is <\/span>a magnificent romance which <\/span>perfectly depicts <\/span>teen love between a <\/span>draki<\/span> and a human.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Their race is often hunted for their skin and bodies. <\/span>Jacinda breaks a rule <\/span>in the pride to sneak off at dawn, almost revealing her people to hunters. Her mother dreads for her safety and moves Jacinda and her sister Tamra to the desert before anything perilous happens. It is quite normal for a draki to enjoy its lifetime in the sky. It is a pity that she is even forbidden to try how the early morning light will taste on her skin. The story begins with a hidden truth about the secret of the whole draki family but rapidly turns glorious when Jacinda meets Will without knowing he is a hunter.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Jacinda once meets a mysterious boy, Will when she went to her brand new high school. Will and his family are draki-hunters. Although Jacinda is able to shift into human form, she still fears that her identity will be discovered by Will, a boy she loves. <\/span>She<\/span> is<\/span> definitely a conflicted creature<\/span> and they <\/span>should be <\/span>mortal <\/span>enemies<\/span> for sure<\/span>, <\/span>but <\/span>there is a mutual attraction<\/span> between them. <\/span>Many other draki has reminded and even warned her not to be so close with Will as he will harm her and her family. Nonetheless, Jacinda treats Will as her refuge, someone who knows everything about her, likes her anyway. She enjoys the time with Will. <\/span>Jacinda<\/span> falls in love with <\/span>Will<\/span> and is willing to sacrifice everything in her life to be with him for eternity, even if that means she has <\/span>be left as a human forever. <\/span>He brightens <\/span>her<\/span> existence with companionship, laughter, love<\/span> and<\/span> romance. <\/span>T<\/span>he idea of <\/span>a <\/span>hunter and prey falling in love, forbidden love, is <\/span>thrilling<\/span> and enticing<\/span>.<\/span><\/p>\n

When Will brings Jacinda to his home, <\/span>she<\/span> once again finds herself surrounded by danger.In the midst of it all, she is forced to choose between her love for <\/span>Will<\/span> and her <\/span>draki ability. <\/span>Will however <\/span>awake<\/span>n<\/span>s her Draki<\/span>. <\/span>If her inner draki is slowly slipping away and dies, she will be a human thereafter. She will do anything to prevent that even if it means she is getting closer to her most dangerous enemy to keep her ability. Jacinda keeps wondering why Will is so sympathetic to her. She thought he was going to rat her out for sure and hunters are not big on mercy. Will is different from the hunters who see draki only as prey, a subspecies to be broken and sold for profits. <\/span>Will<\/span> is <\/span>unsparing<\/span> although his<\/span> tone is so serious<\/span> when they are in danger. <\/span>The doomed love between them drives them crazy for each other. <\/span>To be irrevocably in love with a <\/span>mortal enemy<\/span> is fantasy into a dangerously heightened reality for <\/span>Jacinda<\/span>.<\/span><\/p>\n

Above all<\/span>, I <\/span>have<\/span> to say how much I <\/span>am fond of<\/span> Sophie Jordan’s luscious writing style. <\/span>The <\/span>captivating <\/span>plot is <\/span>splendidly done<\/span>. I find it so easy to get lost in the world through her words. S<\/span>triking<\/span> and<\/span> remarkable<\/span> characters are extremely intriguing and amazing. <\/span>I appreciate <\/span>her work <\/span>from <\/span>a <\/span>literary standpoint. She brings the story to vivid life, and pulls me right into the action. She<\/span> is capable to <\/span>illustrat<\/span>e<\/span> and bring emotions to live. Even though there is not a lot of action in this book, it still <\/span>fixes<\/span> m<\/span>y eyes on<\/span>. <\/span>The whole \u2018draki-human\u2019 idea catches my mind. It was more engrossing than most of the stories of vampires, werewolves or faeries.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Firelight is <\/span>a magnificent romance which <\/span>perfectly depicts <\/span>teen love between a <\/span>draki<\/span> and a human. <\/span>I like the starting arrangement as it is heart-wrenching to read. The author <\/span>is <\/span>naturally<\/span> good at writing <\/span>Jacinda<\/span>‘s <\/span>worries and woes<\/span>.<\/span> D<\/span>anger lurks everywhere, bringing a certain level of suspense to the story<\/span>.<\/span> With so m<\/span>any highlights<\/span>, <\/span>it is certainly a book which is <\/span>extremely difficult to put down.<\/span><\/p>\n

I admit I put off reading this second book in the Twilight series, for a few reasons. Maybe my love for Twilight would turn out to be a fluke. I had watched the movie recently, so it would feel like a rerun. I wasn\u2019t ready to dive back into the series. Well, I finally manned up and read New Moon this week. I can honestly say this is one of my favorite books of all time.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

<\/span>Many bad things have been said about Ms. Meyer\u2019s writing. I don\u2019t agree with any of it. Ms. Meyer has proven to me that she can<\/span><\/span>…more<\/span>All in all, <\/span>I honestly feel that this <\/span>book<\/span> shows a deep kind of love that I haven\u2019t seen in all my romance reading. It<\/span> is<\/span> not just boy-girl romance<\/span> as well<\/span>. It shows a deep, formidable romantic love, but also the love of friendship, the bonds of family, and how they all come together, serving as our greatest weaknesses, but also our greatest strengths. I love stories that make <\/span>rooms for thinking<\/span> and there is so much more going on beneath the surface in this one.<\/span> Firelight <\/span>has definitely deserved a place among my favorite <\/span>friction<\/span>. I will be very interested in reading<\/span> Sophie Jordan\u2019s work <\/span>and seeing what other tales might be created from her fertile imagination<\/span>.<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
