Today was<\/span> the audition for the inter-class drama competition. This <\/span>was<\/span> the day I<\/span> had<\/span> been preparing for since <\/span>D<\/span>ay <\/span>One<\/span> of the school year.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cAlright people! Let\u2019s see who\u2019s going to be our Rapunzel in this play!\u201d said Wade, our monitor and our director. When Wade called upon my name, I went up to the stage and performed the part where Rapunzel met Prince Hans. After the performance, Wade said, \u201cNice, Samie, but sorry we can\u2019t let an African-American be Rapunzel, you\u2019re going to be the backup, okay? Next!\u201d<\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/p>\n

Next was Leah, our class\u2019s beauty queen, who performed a lot worse than me, but Wade said, \u201cAwesome, Leah! You\u2019re our Rapunzel!\u201d Then I went out of the audition room with tons of disappointment to find Eli, who appeared to be my only friend since we are both black. \u00a0Eli saw my sad face and asked, \u201cWhat\u2019s wrong Samie? The audition didn\u2019t go well?\u201d<\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cNo, it didn\u2019t,\u201d I told him \u201cLeah is Rapunzel, I\u2019m only the backup.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cDon\u2019t be sad, Samie. I\u2019m also the backup for Prince Hans.\u201d He tried to comfort me.<\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cSo who\u2019s Prince Hans?\u201d I asked.<\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cKing of fame, Serrure!\u201d We both laughed.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Even though Eli and I <\/span>wer<\/span>e just backups, we still practice<\/span>d<\/span> hard for the competition, in<\/span>case <\/span>there were <\/span>some accident<\/span>s<\/span>. I d<\/span>idn<\/span>\u2019t know about Eli, but I practi<\/span>s<\/span>e<\/span>d<\/span>whenever<\/span>I was<\/span> free.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

On the day of the competition, when I was chatting with Eli, Serrure and the preparation team on stage<\/span>, s<\/span>uddenly Wade rushed <\/span>towards<\/span> us and told us that Leah twisted her ankle and she <\/span>c<\/span>ouldn\u2019t be performing that evening. When Serrure heard that, he yelled<\/span>,<\/span> \u201cThere\u2019s no way I\u2019m marrying a black girl! Not even in a play! Eli, you\u2019re Prince Hans! I quit!\u201d and <\/span>he <\/span>went out the hall.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Then Wade and the preparation team brought Eli and I to the back stage to dress us up. Before the play I was <\/span>very<\/span> nervous, good that I ha<\/span>d<\/span> Eli next to me tell<\/span>ing<\/span> me that I w<\/span>ould<\/span> do well. <\/span>T<\/span>he play went really well<\/span> and<\/span> I extremely like the last part where Rapunzel and Prince Hans got married and lived happily ever after.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

At last, the judges, Miss Hill, Mr. Fury and Mr. Coulson <\/span>announced <\/span>the result, and our class won<\/span> the Champion<\/span>! Miss Hill and Mr. Coulson thought it was interesting to make the main characters into African-Americans. Even Mr. Fury who <\/span>had <\/span>never curved his lips before gave us a warm smile.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

I told Eli<\/span>,<\/span> \u201cThanks dude, without your support I couldn\u2019t make it to this far.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Eli gave me a friendly hug and said<\/span>,<\/span> \u201cSamie you\u2019re the one who won this for us. You even taught me how to act during the practices. Also, this play is called \u201cRapunzel\u201d not \u201cPrince Hans\u201d right?\u201d Then he suddenly yelled<\/span>,<\/span> \u201cHey! Everybody! Let\u2019s cheer for Samie!\u201d So everyone cheered for me, I was glad that I had help.<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
