A speech on the performance of HK Government<\/p>\n
Good morning fellow students!<\/p>\n
I am glad to take this chance to express my views about the performance of the Hong Kong Government. Recently, there are numerous protests concerning different policies of our government. Many citizens are dissatisfied of the economy, environment and even other aspects of Hong Kong. Well, I have the same feeling, too.<\/p>\n
First of all, Hong Kong\u2019s environmental problems are internationally notorious. For example, tourists always complain about the serious air pollution. The bustling regions, like Mong Kok, Tsim Sha Tsui and Causeway Bay, have been the most popular tourist spots for long. Nevertheless, with heat island effect and cars emitting greenhouse gases, these regions, I\u2019m afraid, would be avoided by our visitors very soon. Worse still, the skyscrapers along the Victoria Harbour worsen the Hong Kong\u2019s light pollution. The government has done very little to combat these problems. It seems to see environmental protection as a minor matter only. When the landfills of Hong Kong are about to be saturated, the government fails to make an effective proposal to solve the situation, either. It\u2019s really pathetic, isn\u2019t it?<\/p>\n
Moreover, the educational policies of Hong Kong are very confusing. The new \u20183+3+4\u2019 system lacks careful planning. While secondary school teachers feel stressed about teaching speedily, students suffer much because of the pressure from homework, parents and the like. The requirements of HKDSE are said to be too demanding, too. What\u2019s more, some of the most renowned universities overseas do not yet recognize the result of the new subject, Liberal Studies. All of these cases prove that the Hong Kong Government failed in its educational policies.<\/p>\n
Furthermore, Hong Kong is becoming more and more socially unstable. Poor people are hostile to the rich, as the income gap keeps on widening. They are helpless about getting a living place, while businessmen sell extremely highly-priced flats. Has the government ever thought about helping those who live in cage homes and divided flats? Fights between policemen an citizens are not rare anymore, because some Hongkongers want to arouse the government\u2019s attention by taking extreme actions.<\/p>\n
From my point of view, Hong Kong government should face up to the above problems immediately. It is its duty to ensure the Hong Kong citizens a harmonious environment. The most proper way is to listen to different voices of society and balance their interests. As a student, I hope Hong Kong would have a brighter future, so that the teenagers could hope too!
