{"id":1206,"date":"2013-03-01T06:24:45","date_gmt":"2013-03-01T06:24:45","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/web02.carmelss.edu.hk\/buddingwriters2\/archives\/1206"},"modified":"2015-05-24T07:07:51","modified_gmt":"2015-05-24T07:07:51","slug":"nothing-is-more-miserable-than-offering-seats-to-the-elderly-on-a-bus","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.carmelss.edu.hk\/buddingwriters\/archives\/1206","title":{"rendered":"Nothing is more miserable than offering seats to the elderly on a bus"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Nothing is more miserable than offering seats to the elderly on the bus.\u00a0 Please don\u2019t misunderstand me, I\u2019m not a stingy person, and I\u2019m always willing to give up my seat for someone in need.\u00a0 But it is still a tough task to me.<br \/>The misery begins from that day.\u00a0 I was sitting on a bus, and the bus stopped at a bus stop.\u00a0 An old woman got on.\u00a0 I realized that there was no empty seat left, so I stood up and intended to give her my seat.\u00a0 But just then the old woman said, \u201cOh, you want to offer me your seat?\u00a0 How generous!\u00a0 But I\u2019ll soon get off.\u00a0 No need to mind me, little girl, keep your seat!\u201d\u00a0 I obeyed her.\u00a0 She continued to speak, \u201cSuch good manners!\u00a0 Teenagers nowadays won\u2019t consider much the elderly.\u00a0 This little girl is quite unusual.\u201d\u00a0 The other passengers whispered in agreement, \u201cRight, quite unusual\u2026 nice child\u2026 well-brought-up\u2026polite\u2026\u201d<br \/>My face turned red.\u00a0 I was ashamed of being praised for something I didn\u2019t do.\u00a0 I didn\u2019t deserve any of such praise.\u00a0 At last I decided, since that moment on I must offer my seat, no matter what he or she says.<br \/>Some weeks later, I was travelling by bus, and was sitting.\u00a0 Suddenly I saw an old woman standing near me.\u00a0 I started to leave, meaning to give her my seat.\u00a0 The old woman refused, \u201cNo, thank you, young lady.\u00a0 I have enough strength to stand here.\u00a0 It\u2019s all right, stay in your seat.\u201d\u00a0 I was frozen for a moment.\u00a0 After that I remembered my idea, so I ignored her words, left the seat and stepped aside.\u00a0 To my surprise the old woman became angry.\u00a0 \u201cYoung lady,\u201d she said, \u201cyou don\u2019t believe in what I told you?\u00a0 You think I\u2019m old and weak and I need everyone to look after?\u00a0 No!\u00a0 I-CAN-MANAGE-TO-STAND-HERE, I tell you!\u00a0 Don\u2019t look down on me!\u201d\u00a0 My cheeks burnt.\u00a0 A horrible silence fell onto the bus.\u00a0 Stingingly horrible silence.<br \/>What\u2019s the matter with the elderly?\u00a0 They seem to hate having a seat, and both trying to offer them a seat and really offering them a seat only give me suffering!\u00a0 I then planned not to offer my seat to the elderly anymore.<br \/>Therefore the next day, I was sitting on a crowded bus and when I saw a few old men and old women standing in the aisle, I did nothing.\u00a0 Then when a young man who was sitting with me pressed the bell and got up, I heard one of the old men scolded, \u201cGreat work!
