Exemplars of Good Practices in the Teaching and Learning of English

The Education and Manpower Bureau commissioned The University of Hong Kong to conduct case studies to identify secondary schools with exemplary English language teaching for dissemination to all local schools. Having conducted 377 school visits and observed 385 lessons, the University identified six dimensions conducive to successful English language teaching and compiled a total of 15 exemplars. Besides a DVD version which was sent to schools in March 2005, these exemplars are also accessible on the EMB Homepage (http://good-practices.emb.hkedcity.net).

Our School’s English teaching has been highly commended for effectively developing students’ reading and writing ability, and adopting a whole-school approach to English language enhancement. Three out of the fifteen case studies are based on good practices in our School:

Exemplar 1: Promotion of Reading: A Whole-school Approach

Exemplar 5: Process Writing and Regular Writing in the ELT Curriculum

Exemplar 13: Supporting Teaching and Learning of Content Subjects through English

Our School has been greatly encouraged by the recognition from The University of Hong Kong as well as the opportunity to share with schools our good practices. We will continue to strive for enhancement in English language teaching in Hong Kong.
