Hong Kong Physics Olympiad 2009

Our S. 5E students, Hui Ting Wai and Li Andrew Boshi, participated in the captioned competition co-organized by the Hong Kong Academy for Gifted Education (HKAGE), the Education Bureau (EDB), the Physical Society of Hong Kong and the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST). They won the Second Honour prize and had been enrolled automatically in their “Physics Enhancement Programme”.

Congratulations on their achievements and best wishes to their studies in the said programme.

“RoboCupJunior Hong Kong 2009” Champion

Leung Wing Him, Chan Yip Wang, Fu Kai Ming and Sham Man To, our Design and Technology class students from S4, participated in the RoboCupJunior Hong Kong organized by the Hong Kong RoboCupJunior Association on April 25, 2009. They were the Champion in RoboCupRescue. Congratulations!

Hong Kong FIRST LEGO League

Ten Design and Technology students competed in the “Hong Kong FIRST LEGO League 2009”organized by the Hong Kong Federation of Youth Groups on February 21, 2009. They claimed championship in Robot Performance.

Hong Kong Handbell Festival 2009 – the 4th Schools Handbell Competition

Congratulations to our Chime Team members Poon Jo Yee (1B), Kwok Hiu Lam (1E), Kwan Shuk Mei (2C), Tsoi Suet Nam (2C), Chan Wai Kiu (3E), Lau Cheuk Ying (3B), Li Hong Kiu (3B), Yeung Hoi Yan (3B), Siu Fai Fei (3C), Sham Kwan Ho (4A). Yip Cheuk Lam (4A), Chau Fei Fei (4C), Mok Kai Ching (4D), Choi Naomi Chunting (4E), Chung Siu Hin (4E). They won two prizes : the 1st runner up of the junior group and the 1st runner up of the senior groups of “Hong Kong Handbell Festival 2009 – the 4th Schools Handbell Competition” held by Handbell Association of Hong Kong in The Hong Kong Institute of Education on the 5th of May, 2009.

In December, our school orchestra joined the Hong Kong Youth Music Interflows Competition 2008 organized by the Leisure & Cultural Services Department. We performed well and won the Bronze Award.

Hong Kong Youth Science and Technology Invention Competition 08-09

Congratulations to our students Chan Hau Yau Natalie (1A), Lam Wai Ying (1B) & Chan Ka Wah (1C). They had participated in the Hong Kong Youth Science and Technology Invention Competition 08-09 and won the Merit Prize in the Junior Integrated Science section.

Inter-school Badminton Competition

Our Boys Grade C Badminton Team participated in 2008-09 Inter-school Badminton Competition and won the First Runner-up of Division II (Kowloon).

Biliteracy and Trilingualism Composition and Speech Competition

Jessica Wong Ka Ying participated in the 5th Biliteracy and Trilingualism Composition and Speech Competition. There were about 300 contestants and Jessica Wong got the Outstanding Award for being one of the top ten students in the senior group.

Drug Abuse/Prevention Debating Competition

The English Debating Team has joined the Lions Quest & Yodac Inter-school Debating Competition (Drug Abuse/Prevention). Our team won in the first two rounds and will participate in the third round at the end of this month. Debaters in the first round were Tammy Ma Sin Kwan (7C), Celeste Cheng Hiu Yan (7B), and Gareth Li Wang Fung (6A). Tammy Ma won the best debater award in the first round.

Debaters in the second round were Bettina Wang Zhenyuan (6A), Sharon Wong Lok Yan (6A), and Angela Wong Yan Ning (4A). Bettina Wang was awarded the best debater in the second round.

Hong Kong Olympiad in Informatics 2009

Twelve students participated in the Hong Kong Olympiad in Informatics 2009 (HKOI) co-organized by the Hong Kong Association of Computer Education (HKACE), and the Hong Kong Education Bureau (EDB). Five Carmel students (Lam Hong Man, S3; Chau Ka Po, Hui Kai Hoo, Ngai Pakk Faat, S5; Ng Wai Yee, S6) stood out among 400 participants and were invited to attend the Final Round. Hui Kai Hoo and Chau Ka Po were awarded the Silver Medal in the Junior Division. Congratulations to them all.

“Know the Basic Law” Writing Competition

Li Kai Hei of S6 did well in the “Know the Basic Law” Writing Competition organized by the East Kowloon Youth Society. He won the Merit Award in the Beijing Olympic and Hong Kong Division.
